I haven't ever been under general anesthesia per se, but for having my wisdom teeth out about 3 weeks ago I was sedated by IV injection with Diprivan (basically the same thing as a general anesthesia from my perspective -- I was out). An hour beforehand I had taken Ativan as a tranquilizer and during the operation I was given three shots, one of which was Demerol (pain killer) and I think one of the others was Valium. I didn't really perceive anything much that I remember until a while after the surgery -- though third-party accounts indicate that halfway home from the oral surgeon I was able to finally determine that I was in a car on Dodge Street -- but the amnesia effect of the Diprivan was pretty strong (there may have been Versed, I don't know). I do however very vaguely -- almost like a distant dream -- remember waking up after the surgery and telling the nurse I wasn't ready to leave recovery yet.
Basically it's like nothing at all -- my tranquilized self got into a dental chair, the doctor stuck a butterfly-type IV in my right elbow, and hooked up a syringe of white liquid. I asked what was in the IV, the nurse said it was Diprivan, and I felt myself fade out.

However, some strange things are going on over here. As I mentioned, I have installed OSX on an external HD (connected via FW800), but my internal HD doesn't even show up in Disc Utility. I assume that my internal HD has gone to heaven.
The new setup (using the external HD) works quite well, but this is of course only a temporary solution.

here are some good references to get a grasp of the differences. As others have stated, the lens is the same focal length, but on a smaller sensor body (APC), the image is essentially "cropped". Some websites..

I strongly disagree that these ads are elitist, or even snobbery. The point of the ads is that mac is different. HP can use demonstrations to show how, in a perfect world, their computers can do good stuff with windows. Apple has a different need. Apple does not build commodity computers. Apple is an ALTERNATIVE SYSTEM must differentiate itself compared to everything else out there. The need is to show that there IS a difference, and that Apple represents a very different way of working with computers.

As a long term Garmin user I cringed when they tried doing the phone thing with Asus, this doesnt fill me with any confidence either.
As mentioned above, signal where I am in the UK is just too patchy to rely on, or indeed fast enough (even when signal is good).
When iPhones only had 4/8gb storage then it kind of makes sense but as later models are all 16gb+ whats the big deal?
I like to holiday in the US, often driving long distances. OTA maps would cost me a fortune in roaming fees, if indeed I got signal out in the sticks.
For me buying copilot outright (�25/$40) for the UK and (�10/$15) USA (Thanks Black friday sales!) made a lot more sense and a fixed budget. I get quarterly updates too so I'm never that out of date!
Before NDrive were given the boot I recall I got their USA/Canada maps for about $5 all in. Unless you really need all the available space for music/games/etc why would you want to risk it all on the chance of a good signal?

Laptops just aren't the typical gift. They are in the wrong price range.

Wouldn't that be so annoying in the dark, like the backlight on the keyboard of a MBP when your watching a movie?
I've thought about that but I personally cup my thumb around the bezel so I wouldn't notice it....

You know, I would love an Apple phone as much (or even more) than the next guy, but something occured to me this morning...
All this talk, all this hype. If/When the iPhone comes out, most of you are gonna flame Apple for releasing such a POS. I'm already vommiting at the thought of how many posts will use the overused phrase "underwhelmed."
You will be underwhelmed my friends, I promise.
Also, to stay competitive in the mobile phone hardware market, you've got to release new hardware, with new features, at least every year, if not twice a year. Apple seems to be so slow getting out of the gate on this one that I wonder if they could do that. I mean, look at quickly they updated their notebooks to Core 2 Duo. Oh, that's right, they haven't.
Can Apple produce and continue to innovate a product every 9 months?

I love how innocent they make the kids out to be. Utterly ridiculous. I would have robbed my parents blind with this. "I thought it was smurf coins, mommy - not real money." ********, I would abuse the system. My sister racked up a $350 phone bill the first month she had a phone - in sixth grade. She knew she only had 100 txts back then, that didn't stop her from Txting. Point is, kids are going to download **** when they can, regardless of how many notifications say "warning! Daddy's credit card will be charged." Uh, oh, I better not buy the mightyeagle now!

A little off topic, but question for those who need Office software, and also run Parallels/Fusion: Do you prefer Office For Mac, or do you prefer to run "regular" Office in Parallels/Fusion? Thanks.
Well, you got support for plugins as far as I know in Office 2007/2010 while I don't know if you have it in Office 2008/2011. One of the plugins for example is Ribbon Hero, an interactive tutorial for Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote.

I really hope T-Mobile isn't chosen...I had them for a year and a half and what horrible customer service. Not to mention that their coverage in Palm Springs, CA is horrible. Apple should go with Verizon, I did go with AT&T myself, but Verizon is rated highest of all the carriers for customer satisfaction and coverage.

NYC and San Francisco have toyed with the ideas but so far nothing has come of it. It takes a strong political will to make it happen I'm sure. In the end though, I can hardly see any other viable options for large cities.
The only city I've ever been to which isn't congested is Singapore - and they have excellent public transport, very wide roads, very high taxes on car ownership (this gives some idea (http://www.expatsingapore.com/content/view/1161)) and road pricing in the centre.

people are overreacting about this.
1. you physically have to go to places and check in for anyone to see where your at.
2. you control who sees it. you can set it up so all your friends see it or only certain ones. if your worried about someone knowing your not at home. you might want to think who you have for friends on your FB account because they are the only ones that will know where you are or you aren't

Ping me if you are interested in a used GT120. It's only 5 months old or so, and I've got the receipt, etc.
Why do I want to sell? Under current conditions (Snow Leopard, applications etc) all my 3d apps default to the GT120 rather than my 4870 for rendering OpenGL, which slows my work in c4d and vue.
Oh, is there any way to change that? I do a lot of Maya and AE, will it affect those too? Like, If I were to use to hook up my third monitor to the GT120 and had a Maya window on it, would it use that or the 5870 to render? And if I had 3 monitors on my 5870 rather than 2, would that slow it down any?

Nack offers a different point of view. From his perspective, if Apple hadn�t switched to Intel processors, Soundbooth might very likely be a Windows application only. Apple�s migration to the Intel chip architecture �makes Mac development more attractive,� said Nack.
�Here�s the reality: Apple�s migration to Intel chips means that it�s easier to develop for both Mac and Windows, because instead of splitting development resources optimizing for two different chip architectures, you can focus on just one,� he wrote.
This is why the PowerPC machines need to go as quickly as everyone can buy an Intel machine. Making a intel only Mac Application is cheaper and less time consuming for the developer and is able to take advantage of any code optimization for the x86 platform. That makes it more likey that we'll get better software products and applications we normally wouldn't get. To be frank, developers had absolutely no reason to optimize PPC applications. The platform is too small to warrant it.
The follow snippet is something the platform as a whole should take note of. It should be pretty self explanatory.
